Callware Promotes Open Standards Telephony With Unified Messaging App Supporting Dialogic’s CT Media

Callware Technologies has developed a unified messaging application for CT servers, supporting Dialogic CT Media server software and Microsoft Windows NT server.

CT Media, which was recently licensed and endorsed by Microsoft, supports applications written to the Enterprise Computer Telephony Forum’s (ECTF) S.100 applications programming interface (API) and is being extended to support Microsoft TAPI. CT Media is open systems-based server software developed by Dialogic Corporation that fully embraces open standards for media processing to interoperate multi-vendor applications and hardware.

Callware has expanded its popular, award-winning unified messaging solution, Callegra for Windows NT, to include support for CT Media to maintain and increase the product’s openness, scalability and ability to interoperate with other media-convergence technologies. Callegra’s integration to CT Media allows for sharing of data and call handling as well as application-level features such as Microsoft Exchange server integration to unified messaging, text-to-speech and Internet telephony.

“We’re pleased to see Callware Technologies adopting CT Media for their unified messaging product, Callegra,” said Howard Bubb, president and CEO of Dialogic Corporation. “Callegra on CT Media will enable users to run stand-alone unified messaging, add it to servers running multiple applications such as PBX or call center applications, and build complete solutions that perform as an integrated system.”

“Customers are looking for communications solutions that work great today and provide choice in the future and the unmistakable adoption of open platforms is spurring just this kind of innovation,” said Mark Lee, product manager for Windows Communications at Microsoft Corp. “Callware’s commitment to deliver unified messaging products based on the Windows platform and open standards is, in turn, enabling new opportunities for solution providers to more rapidly meet the needs of customers with feature-rich solutions that also provide choice.”

Microsoft recently entered into an agreement with Dialogic to license the CT Media server software to extend the Microsoft Windows operating system platform to better enable developers to build open, cost-effective computer telephony and converged communications solutions. Callegra for Windows NT has made a name for itself in the industry by best embracing the strengths of the Windows NT Server environment, such as Microsoft Management Console (MMC) administration, Windows Telephony Applications Programming Interface (TAPI) support, and built-in Internet communications capabilities.

“Drawing upon its strong track record in developing unified messaging systems for small-to-enterprise size customers, Callware’s Callegra product line is now using CT Media to deliver a scalable voice and fax messaging technology that allows end users, partners and service providers an unparalleled degree of flexibility, and cost effectiveness while growing a CT Server solution,” said Alec Belfer, Callware’s executive vice president of research and development.

“Our work with CT Media makes the Callegra unified messaging offering hardware independent, interoperable with software from multiple vendors, and aligned with a standard CT server architectural model.”

The telecom industry is undergoing a paradigm shift as companies race to move from closed, proprietary systems to open systems. “Historically, CT software vendors could not specialize in any one particular product segment and rely on other suppliers to fill niches or to complement their product lines because of missing standards for inter-vendor application cooperation and integration. Callware’s Callegra for CT Media product brings a complete, open standard solution, which allows partners a new level of flexibility in implementing their open platform strategies,” said Zig Serafin, senior vice president of strategic relations at Callware Technologies. “Microsoft and Dialogic’s strong reaffirmation of CT Media helps to propel the future availability of powerful business communications platforms for the small-to-enterprise business segments.”

Callware’s CT Media-enabled Callegra messaging system is an essential component of an open-systems based computer telephony solution. Callware’s Callegra CT Media product has been designed to provide numerous customer benefits and to be an ideal complement to other standards-based CT Media solutions, such as ACD, IVR, and call accounting applications.
